Rio 2016 MAG & WAG All-Around Results

MAG Full Results
1) Kohei Uchimura 92.365
2) Oleg Verniaiev 92.266
3) Max Whitlock 90.641

I finally have time to quickly blog about this. I think I used all my excitement and energy on tumblr.

The MAG AA was exciting! I did saw it live. I had so many emotions. There were points where I gave up and accepted that there would be a new champion. But then when it came to highbar I knew Kohei was able to do it. He is world champion on highbar. He really performed enough for the win. When he perfectly stuck his dbl dbl dismount I knew it was his gold medal. He did all that he could and he really brought it at the last minute. He was not gonna lose his AA streak. Kohei is AMAZING! Winning 8 major consecutive AA titles in a row! In an interview he said this Olympic games will be his last time competing AA. I am going to miss seeing him compete AA but I am still excited to see him compete as a specialist. He is really motivated for Tokyo 2020. Kohei is a hero to many and he is my hero too.

His rivals Oleg Verniaiev and Max Whitlock definitely put pressure on Kohei. Oleg was also amazing. At times I started to accept that he would of won but it was not meant to be. His highbar has always been a weak event for him. He has a huge fan following and for the next quad he can be as dominant as Kohei has been. It'll be exciting to see if he can.

WAG Full Results
1) Simone Biles 62.198
2) Aly Raisman 60.098
3) Aliya Mustafina 58.665

On the women's side I was only able to watch the first two rotations. I later watched the last two rotations on replay. It was no surprise that Simone Biles won gold. She was amazing. I kept saying ooh and wow when she kept sticking her floor passes. She is an amazing gymnast. She completely dominated the 2016 quad. And she can very much as well do it in the next new up coming quad. This girl is on fire! When I saw Aly and Simone get emotional after their floor routines I started to get emotional too. Usually I am not an American fan but I am slowly becoming one. They both did the best yesterday night. I am happy for them. And then there is Aliya Mustafina. Her strong bar routine and strong competitive mentality helped her to secure the 3rd place. I am happy she can win AA 3rd again at Olympics. Still rooting for a gold medal on bars for her.

Just Because...All Kohei Uchimura 2014 World Championship Routines

Plus you get to see Yusuke Tanaka's floor routine :P.

I think the only person that can cause an upset to Uchimura is Verniaiev and possibly Whitlock. We haven't seen much of Whitlock but he'll start to compete more in the next coming months. Then there are his own teammates like Kato and Tanaka. Kato recently had a mishap at a college meet but hopefully it's nothing serious and he can resume normal training. Either than that I don't think guys like Mikulak can even make top 3. Well anything can happen but he'll have to over come other guys before even getting close to 1st.

Ellie Black AA Routines @ Pan Ams 2015

I love that she won. I haven't been paying much attention to Pan Am Games since life is hectic and my internet is crap.

It's great she won on home soil. Woohoo!

Giulia Steingruber AA Floor @ 2015 European Championships

I completely missed this competition but know that Steingruber won AA. I like her Gogean leap. Very nice floor work.

Simone Biles Golden In WAG AA || Nanning 2014

This was another nice competition. I'm happy for all the medalists. I'm most happy for Iordache. She improved a lot. I watched the FIG stream. I never saw Iordache on bars but knowing how she performed on bars in the past I'm not surprised at the good bar score she got. Sometimes she's on sometimes she's off but she was on today. Her beam is good as always. Her difficulty dropped a bit because not everything was credited. Her vault was good as usual. Her floor was a bit nerve wrecking but she kept herself composed and even upgraded her last pass to full in pike. There were no doubt that she would medal. I think she will be the story of WAG this championships. Well I found myself feeling happy for her.

Biles took gold. She did a great job today. It must feel great to win 2 consecutive AA titles in a row. Teammate Kyla Ross came in 3rd. It's not that I am surprised she got 3rd it's that in gymnastics you never know what can happen. It was sad to see Mustafina fall on her dbl Arabian mount but it is what it is. She is capable of more difficulty so hopefully next year we can see more improvements from her. It's not over yet. Mustafina can still get gold on beam or medal on the events she qualified for. Anything can happen. Good luck and congratulations to everyone.

Kohei Uchimura Golden In MAG AA || Nanning 2014

Full Results

1) Kohei Uchimura (JPN) 91.965
2) Max Whitlock (GBR) 90.473
3) Yusuke Tanaka (JPN) 90.449

This was a nice competition. I watched the Chinese feed. There were no doubts that Uchimura would reign again. He's won 5 world AA titles now! But I think it's best to say he won 6 major consecutive AA titles in a row. He has not lost since 2009. Not to be negative but I felt he was lowballed on some scores, just saying. I'm not surprised Whitlock came in 2nd. He did a good job. It was a good idea that they replaced him over Niles. I'm most happy for Yusuke Tanaka. He's somewhat been in the shadows of his more famous teammates but he managed to get third. I was cheering really hard for him to get 2nd. Although I knew he had tough competition from Verniaiev and Whitlock. I felt bad for inconsistent Verniaiev. He was close to making a podium finish. The hands down on rings, nervous floor and the out of bounds really cost him the difference. He could have gotten 2nd or I dare say first? Nah Kohei is the best but it'll be interesting to see how the next world championships be like. Whitlock and Verniaiev are younger but Uchimura will not back down.

Kyla Ross Team/AA Routines From Jesolo 2014

I've finally got caught up with Jesolo 2014. My favourite would be Ross. I heard that she was coming back from a back injury? Well I think she did good at this competition. It's still early in the season and she has time to catch up. Even with watered down routines and a 1.0 deduction on vault she still managed to have the top AA score of 58.000. That's pretty impressive. Although I do think her e-scores were a bit high. I just wish she could be a bit less stiff in her gymnastics. Results.

FIG's 2013 MAG AA Worlds Montage

WAG 2013 Worlds AA Results - Simone Biles USA Wins

AA Award Ceremony

  FULL RESULTS

1. Simone Biles USA 60.216

Highlight for me would be her vault and floor. Her beam could be better. She got through bars and had the second highest E- score 8.600. Overall she did a very good job, well done.

2. Kyla Ross USA 59.332

She was my favourite today. Low difficulty but very good execution. It's proof that this strategy can work. It's sad because I could see Anastasia Grishina having this kind of strategy, come on Russia are you paying attention? It's sad the Russians insists Grishina do higher difficulty. Ross had the highest E-scores of the competition with the exception of FX (Biles was higher) VT9.566  UB8.700  BB8.633  FX8.633. She won the Longines elegance prize too :) Oh and Kohei won it again. Would have been better if someone else won it besides Kohei, maybe his teammate Kato should have won it.

3. Aliya Mustafina RUS 58.856

The Americans were too strong for Mustafina to challenge them but she put up a good fight. Her DTY is good but could be better. She brought back her full 6.7 bar routine. On floor she did good. She did two whips indirect to Arabian + stag, cool. I'm happy she got to medal.

Other highlights-

The Chinese failed on beam. Yao and Shang both fell off beam. Yao did the Mo Salto though!

Larisa Iordache started off good but then on her best event she fell off beam. She is my pick for BB EF gold. She came back on floor with a nice routine.

MAG 2013 Worlds AA Results - Kohei Uchimura WINS

Ryohei Kato, Kohei Uchimura, Fabian Hambuchen
Kohei Uchimura wins his 4th world AA title. Including his Olympic AA gold. He has won 5 major AA titles in a row 2009-2013! He is a legend. His teammate Ryohei Kato came in 2nd and Fabian Hambuchen of Germany came in 3rd. Fabian's highlight was highbar. I think he will win HB in event finals. Too bad for Sam Mikulak and the other guys. Most of the guys had major chances of medaling. Well I'm happy with the results.

Full Results

1) Kohei Uchimura JPN 91.990
2) Ryohei Kato JPN 90.032
3) Fabian Hambuchen GER 89.332

My Quick Picks for MAG AA Worlds 2013

1) Kohei Uchimura JPN (Obviously)
2) Ryohei Kato JPN
3) Sam Mikulak USA

Anything can happen and all I really want is Uchimura to win.

Zhou Shixiong 2013 CHN National Games AA 90.269

I think the scores were inflated but you can never count China out. I don't think he can win AA gold in Antwerp but if he has a very good day he might be able to medal.

Thoughts on WAG AA Universiade 2013

Unofficial results. Check the gymnastics results website for official results.

This competition was intense and filled with lots of nervy moments but in the end the two top Russians pulled it together! I watched this on Russian live feed with Russian commentators. I will focus mainly on Aliya Mustafina and Ksenia Afanasyeva.

VT- Afan gets a nice 14.950 for her relatively clean DTY. Nice form on the legs but hop or step back on landing. Good start.

Mustafina has some leg form and I hope she can improve on that. Not really pleasing to see the legs but still a good vault for 14.750.

UB - Afan debuts a new composition on bars. Starts with shap + pak this time. Bars is not her forte. She gets through it for 13.750.

Mustafina proves why she is a bamf on bars. She is so good here. There were no major errors. She still did her 6.3 routine. Well executed for 15.200. That score will help her a lot.

On beam this was the nerve wreaking event for both Musty and Afan.

Musty starts off okay but then does not connect her onodi to 2/1 turn and falls off beam. Everything goes well after that. I think she just took out her Arabian for this competition which was a good idea. But this new composition beam is not good IMO. Beam is not her forte but she is capable of hitting her routines. Even with the fall she still manages to get a decent score of 14.050. Nothing to be worried about.

Afan- debuted a new composition as well. She does a new split ring, needs work. She was super wobbly on this event it was so hard to watch. Like Musty she is hit or miss. She seemed super nervous but the crowd helped her to stay on. I much prefer this composition. I hope she can improve on this event because it has potential. She stayed on but all the missed connections and wobbles caused her a lot of deductions for a score of 13. 150 ouch.

The last rotation was much better for the two Russian girls, thank god. Afan showed why she is a world champion on floor. Stuck DLO and double pike. No major errors on her other acrobatics. Her spins were a bit iffy but still nicely done. I am amazed at her ability to keep on tumbling for so many years. She just keeps on getting better. She scores a monstrous 15.000.

Up last was Aliya Mustafina. She did a minor downgraded routine. I thought this was a nice routine and her low 13.900 was surprising to see IMHO.

In the end Aliya honestly easily won this competition. I think AA titles really suits Musty more than for Afan. I know that Afan has been doing AA forever but it feels right for Mustafina to take this title. I'm very happy and pleased that Aliya took this title. She still needs work for worlds but this is mid season and I can see that she is not in top shape and should be in better shape for Antwerp worlds. Aliya 1) 57.900 and 2) Afanasyeva 56.850.

I honestly didn't keep track of who won 3rd because I was really focused on the Russians and I was chatting with a friend. But some things worth noting. I liked Kim Bui's Loso mount + loso. Yu Minobe of Japan had a solid and nice beam routine. Elsa Garcia of Mexico dismounted with an Arabian tucked, it's very ambitious but she fell. She qualified 2nd for floor so hopefully she will be better in event finals.

I Hate to Say this But...

I really wish Ksenia Afanasyeva would stop trying to be an all arounder. She is past her prime on uneven bars. I give her respect for trying but this is sad:

That happened during European AA qualification on bars. She is amazing on floor exercise and good on beam and vault. She should stick to those events. Russia is pretty much covered on bars. But whatever makes her and the Russian Federation happy, they are the ones planning her program. I just rather she become a very great specialist. If she spends more time on the other events she can become very very dominate in event finals:

Ksenia has upgraded her floor routine to 6.4 D-score! Unfortunately I cannot embed a video yet :(
Here is a breakdown of her 6.4 routine:

DLO (F)
Two whips indirect to 3/1 (E) 0.2
Dbl attitude spin + dbl spin (D) 0.1
Split ring leap + split leap 3/2 (C+D)
5/2 Twists + layout (D) 0.1
Dbl L-turn + Y-turn (D) 0.1
Dbl Pike (D)

3.4 + 0.5CV = 3.9 + 2.5CR = 6.4 D-Score.

It's a very ambitious and risky routine because there are a lot of chances for almost everything to be downgraded and not credited. She must work hard to complete everything. She was credit with everything in qualification and scored 14.633 with 8.533 execution and 0.3 penalty for out of bound. She qualified first to floor finals. I wish her all the best!

Larisa Iordache VS Aliya Mustafina 2013 European AA

This is a cool edit done by tumblr user mustafinaencounter. It suggests that the all-around final will be a showdown between Romania's Larisa Iordache and Russia's Aliya Mustafina. I won't do an analysis but may the best gymnast win. There are other gymnasts who can threat for gold like Anastasia Grishina. Grishina could surprise.
