Happy 19th Birthday Viktoria Komova

This is one of my favourite routine from Komova. To date, I think this was her best floor performance of her life. It was one of my favourite floor routine of the 2012 quad.

Happy 18th Birthday Anastasia Grishina

Currently Grishina has the best twisting form on the Russian women's team. I hope this year will bring her lots of success. I remember seeing this routine for the first time and Grishina really stood out. I really like this routine.

News Roundup - Komova Making a Comeback & Uchimura Training TTY Again

Yesterday I first saw these news on tumblr. I gotta love tumblr yet sometimes I hate it but I like it more than hate. Okay so Komova is training to make a comeback again. She grew a lot and is looking vibrant and strong. She seems really positive. I hope this will be the year for Komova. She is such a beautiful gymnast. Word on the gymternet is that Mustafina will be taking a break from Round Lake. She will still be training at her home gym but not at Round Lake. Maybe she will miss Europeans? Here is the wonderful uploaders tumblr page lakekrugloye.

On the Japanese front Uchimura is training the TTY again which is named after Kenzo Shirai and Kim Hee Hoon. You can also see snippets of Shirai on pommels and rings. Kameyama, the reigning world gold pommel horse winner can also be seen doing a Kolman on high bar. I got this news from gymfanjapan's tumblr.

CoP - Tip of The Month

CR- Compositional Requirement on BB (balance beam)

On beam gymnasts are required to link, "one connection of 2 different dance elements, one being a leap, jump or hop with 180 degree split (cross or side), or straddle position. Awarded 0.5CR.

Usually you'll see the typical split jump + wolf jump, sissone + split jump etc. Pretty standard and boring. Some gymnasts have come up with some interesting ways to make this often boring CR interesting. In the '08 code I did recall Pavlova/Liukin doing sissone/split + sheep jump but that didn't really appeal to me. I do like Zeng Siqi's switch ring leap + sheep jump but what really got me noticing with the dance CR was when Amelia Racea did the sissone + full turn. I don't know if she was the first gymnast to perform that series but she was the first gymnast that I have ever saw do it. I like the originality.

I also liked Grishina's full turn + split jump but really I like her whole Onodi + illusion + full turn + split jump. That is one of my favourite connection on beam.

Just Because...

Today there is a snowstorm warning and it's supposed to feel like -40 Celsius! So I thought here is Yulia Belokobylskaya 2011 team final floor routine. I like this routine and the music. The music is by Edvin Marton called Ice Symphony. Hopefully there will be no power outages today like the ice storm before Christmas 2013.

Happy 25th Birthday Kohei Uchimura

He is truly the current king of gymnastics. It'll be very interesting to see what he does this year. Here is an old documentary about Uchimura with English subtitles. I thought some of you might like it since we get to know a little bit more about Uchimura. For instance he doesn't like tomatoes, snow peas or vegetables! I say that's a little too much for me. I gotta have my veggies and I like tomatoes :D. The documentary is over 24mins.
